Community Question: Prepping for Preschool

Community Question is a category inspired by you. Here and there readers write in with questions that are better served by the varied, experiential knowledge of those who read and contribute in the comments. Please respond to this post in the comments, but if you have a question for the community email it to Heather.

The following question is from Stephanie J.

“I have a 2 1/2-year-old son, and a 1-year-old daughter. As my son approaches his 3rd birthday, some friends and family have asked what we are planning to do for preschool. Our public school systems aren’t great, and so we have a very diverse group of kids and parents at our church who use public school, private school and homeschool. I knew I wanted to educate my future children at home since before I married my husband. Now that the time for preschool is approaching I don’t know where to begin this journey.

My son already knows most of what he would learn in a traditional preschool, such as numbers, letters, shapes, and colors. I don’t know what type of curriculum to use or how to engage him in the more formal learning environment he would get in school and need for later in his education. I plan to ask other homeschooling mamas I know but submitted this community question to expand my reach for valuable information while I try to figure out what is going to be best for our family. Thanks!”

What suggestions do you have for Stephanie as she prepares to homeschool her preschool-aged son?
